The Pitsco 17080 Foam Wing Cutter slices polystyrene foam into model airplane wings for students in grades 6-12 studying scientific concepts of aerodynamics, drag, or aeronautical engineering. Its motorized cutting board follows a cardstock airfoil template attached to the edge of foam material and moves foam through the cutting wire to cut model wings for testing in wind tunnels or building model airplanes. It has a hot nichrome wire that helps provide precise cuts to polystyrene foam shapes. The nichrome wire construction resists corrosion and has a high melting point. The wire melts through polystyrene foam for precise cuts to shapes while reducing dust and residue to help maintain a clean workspace. The cutter's adjustable wire temperature allows for optimum cutting performance when using various thicknesses and types of polystyrene foam. Its base measures 14 x 14 inches (W x D). (W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) The wing cutter is made of laminated phenolic resin for durability. Phenolic or phenol formaldehyde resin is a synthetic resin often used for coating objects such as circuit boards and countertops, and in the production of adhesives and molded objects. The kit includes a cutter, a control box with temperature dial, a 12V regulated power supply, 100 feet of extra cutting wire, and instructions. A wire foam wing cutting tool is typically used in an educational or hobby setting for cutting foam wings or aerodynamic prototypes. Science education products incorporate applied math and science principles into classroom and homeschool-based projects. Teachers in pre-K, elementary, and secondary classrooms use science education kits and products alongside science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curriculum to demonstrate STEM concepts and real-world applications through hands-on activities. Science education projects include a broad range of activities, such as practical experiments in engineering, aeronautics, robotics, energy, chemistry, physics, biology, and geology. Pitsco Education develops K-12 science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curriculum, educational kits, and classroom tools. The company, founded in 1971, is headquartered in Pittsburg, KS.
